Our
Crazy Wedding Adventure - page 2
Did the Food Arrive?
It did arrive and was well worth the wait. Delicious and
still hot, we feasted on Shrimp Vindaloo, Chicken Curry,
Aloo Gobi and Baingan Bharta accompanied by basmati rice
and naan.
Those less gastronomically adventurous were treated
to Roasted Chicken a la Costco, salad and rice. All this
was accompanied by delightful Californian table wines:
the red included a Black Mountain Fat Cat Cabernet (a Trader
Joe's Exclusive), and Papio (the monkey wine) Cabernet.
Whites included a Guenoc Chardonnay and naturally, a Chardonnay
from Beaulieu Vineyard.
After multiple servings of both food and wine, and allowing
a bit of settling time, Rodney and Kat opened the dance floor
by performing a stunningly coreographed number to Madelaine
Peyroux's "La Vie en Rose." (Okay, so it wasn't
stunning, but at least Kat didn't wipe out in those ridiculously
impractical shoes she was wearing.)
The First Dance
We danced, we chatted, and we tried to make a dent in the
vast mound of alcohol stashed behind the bar (which the
bartender was not shy about doling out to our guests.)
As the sun set,
the lights were dimmed for our second surprise of the evening.
Surprise No. 2
Kat's brother Chris (along with help from father Stan)
had spent countless hours digitizing old Super-8 film.
Granted
it won't be making the rounds at Cannes this year, but
the end result definitely deserved two thumbs up. Opening
with
never-released before footage of aspiring National Geographic
documentarian Stan, the film starred Stan and Marie circa
1975, with special guest appearances from NHL hopefuls
Vit, Leo and Ted. Dizzying scenes of 4-year old Kat performing
sequential sommersaults were followed by still-images
of a teenage Rodney. How witty of the producer to have
found
scenes from approximately the same year in our lives.
Then it was time for the cake cutting.
Cake
Having scoured San Diego County for a cake worthy enough,
Kat realized her best option was to turn to Trader Joe's
desserts where their calorie-free selection agreed both
with her palate and with her pocketbook. By emptying
the frozen dessert section of Trader Joe's, the wedding
guests were able to choose from a plethora of delightful
desserts. Settling on TJ's decadent Chocolate Ganache Cake
for the Official Wedding Cake, the well-dressed cake toppers
(appropriately, a cat and a monkey) added the perfect touch
of elegance and class.
Having fed each other a tantalizing morsel
of cake, Rodney and Kat retreated to their table to allow
the masses to descend upon and devour the remaining desserts.
The Party Hits the Road
Being kicked out of the Seapointe at 10pm didn't cramp the
bride and groom's style. After all, every good party deserves
an after-party. Those who were still game for continuing
the festivities trekked back to Rodney and Kat's home for
more food, booze and fun. There the carousing continued
in a more intimate atmosphere where everyone got on like
one big happy family.
And thus the day came to a close. In all,
a perfect day, wouldn't you say? |
